Carmi City Council approves FY 2017 budget at Tuesday meeting

The Carmi City Council breezed through the agenda at their first meeting of March Tuesday night.

Following approval of the February 21st meeting minutes, the Council approved rescheduling the April 4th meeting to Monday, April 3rd to avoid a conflict with Election Day.  The Council then approved the 2017 Budget and Appropriations for the Fiscal Year that began January 1st and ends December 31st.

A public hearing was held prior to the meeting about the Budget and Appropriations ordinance.

A TIF #2 Redevelopment Agreement between the City and Botsch Properties, LLC was approved.  A one-time payment of $6500 was agreed to with terms the same as the two previous agreements with Harms Construction and Seiler Heating and Air.   Keith Botsch said the money would be going toward new replacement windows.

In the Mayor’s report, Mayor Jeff Pollard told the Council that the night drop for utility customers is broken, and that a replacement has been ordered.  It should be installed in the next few weeks. The City of Carmi will hold an electronics recycling event April 1st from 9am to 1 pm at the Newton Wire and Cable building on 3rd Street, and that the Southern Illinois Archery Club will be holding an ASA Tri-State Qualifier match at Burrell’s Woods March 18th and 19th.

Alderman Sheila Headlee thanked City Supervisor Mike Buckman and his employees for their efforts during and after last week’s line of storms.

The Council went into executive session at 5:38 pm.
