Norris City Board passes expense control ordinance

The Norris City Village Board held their first meeting of 2017 on Tuesday night.

The State now requires towns to comply with the “Local Government Expense Control Act”, which requires them to regulate reimbursement of travel expenses. So, the Village passed an ordinance that sets limits on what employees can spend. They will get 54 cents per mile, reimbursement for gas at the pump, $60 per day for meals and $200 per night for lodging. Receipts are required for all expenses and must be submitted to the board for their approval.

The Board will be accepting bids for the trash hauling contract, which expires on March 31st and for the gas supplier contract, which expires on April 30th.

Mayor Roy Kissel said there is a Village ordinance that requires solicitors to register with the city office, and solicitors are not allowed to call on residents before 10am or after 5 pm. There has been a group in the past that has been soliciting without registering with the Village and coming to call at all hours. Sometime soon, signs will be posted at city limits regarding this.

In the police report for December, there were eight reports written and two arrests made with no citations issued. There were also just five 9-1-1 calls received. Officers participated in “Kids and Cops” Christmas shopping at Walmart on December 17th. Also, an active sexual abuse investigation has possibly led to additional victims or persons of interest.

The Giving Tree handed out 79 food baskets to the needy and Christmas gifts to 72 children.

The next Village Board meeting will be on Monday, February 6th at 7 p.m.
