Two Fall Concerts set for mid-November at RLC

Hitting the Rend Lake College Theatre stage next week are two concerts, featuring students, community members and guests in the RLC Community Orchestra, Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, and Jazz Band. Admission is free for both events.

The Fall Orchestra Concert will begin at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13. The Community Orchestra will perform three specific selections: Richard Strauss’ Serenade in E-flat, Op. 7 for wind instruments; Benjamin Britten’s Simple Symphony for string orchestra; and Gustav Mahler’s Songs of the Wayfarer, featuring Herrin’s Allison Spiller, mezzo-soprano soloist.

The Fall Concert will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, highlighting the Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, and Jazz Band. The band will perform a variety of selections from the 1920s to modern music. The choirs will perform a number of spirituals such as “Nothin’ Gonna Stumble My Feet,” “Soon I Will Be Done,” and “Wade in the Water.” There will also be American Folk Songs “Shenandoah” and “He’s Gone Away” and sacred Latin pieces performed by a select women ensemble.
