SIC Speech Team ‘Nailed It’ in First Tournament of the Year

SIC’s Forensic Falcons speech team claimed top honors at this weekend’s Fright Fest invitational hosted by Illinois Central College in Peoria, IL. SIC advanced 93 percent of their competition entries into elimination rounds, which is significant for any competitive team. Every Forensic Falcon team member in attendance advanced at least one event into a final round of competition. SIC brought home seven event championships and overwhelmingly won team sweepstakes against teams such as College of DuPage and Moraine Valley Community College. Eight schools were in attendance at the tournament.

Coach Dr. Tyler Billman remarks, “This is a wonderful start to the competitive season. This team has great potential and we are excited to see what the year will bring.”

The team is also coached by Jenny Billman and Paul Cummins.

Individual results from the tournament are as follows:

Gabe Motsinger (Harrisburg): tournament champion in prose interpretation, tournament champion in duo interpretation (with partner Cassidy Maynard), and second place in speech to entertain.

Cassidy Maynard (Harrisburg): tournament champion in duo interpretation (with partner Gabe Motsinger), third place in prose interpretation, third place in communication analysis.

Noah Taylor (Eldorado): tournament champion in persuasion speaking, second place in poetry interpretation.

Rachael Hooven (Harrisburg): tournament champion in speech to entertain, fourth place in duo interpretation (with partner Kaydee Dycus).

Alli Haley (Carmi): tournament champion in program oral interpretation, fifth place in poetry interpretation.

Zeb Sanderson (Carrier Mills): tournament champion in poetry interpretation, fifth place in duo interpretation (with partner Shay Wood).

Shay Wood (Shawneetown): tournament champion in dramatic interpretation, fifth place in duo interpretation (with partner Zeb Sanderson).

Shannon Welker (Harrisburg): second place in informative speaking, fourth place in extemporaneous speaking, fifth place in impromptu speaking.

Bailey Drone (Harrisburg): second place in persuasion speaking, third place in extemporaneous speaking.

Kaydee Dycus (Mt. Vernon): third place in dramatic interpretation, fourth place in duo interpretation (with partner Rachael Hooven).

Carrice McDaniel (Harrisburg): fourth place in persuasion speaking, fourth place in communication analysis.

Haley Rushing (Marion): fourth place in prose interpretation, fifth place in persuasion speaking, fifth place in communication analysis.

Nick Cofield (Carrier Mills): second in extemporaneous speaking

Joli Murphy (Enfield): fourth place in dramatic interpretation.
