2015 Corn King and Queen passing on their crowns this weekend

2015 King Alec Garner

Alec Garner is a six-year member of the Crossville Prizewinners 4-H club and the son of David and Sandy Garner.

In the past six years Alec has been active in 4-H projects.  His five favorite projects would have to be woodworking, heritage arts/leather craft, and hobbies & collections.  Taking woodworking it allows Alec to spend time with his dad and create something out of nothing.  Completing a leather craft is an old art, Alec enjoys working with Charlie Nolan on this.

Alec’s top honors have been receiving the Nolan Encouragement award, outstanding 1st year member, and receiving the Engineering and Technology project medal.

4-H is special to Alec because of how it gives him an opportunity to help and give back to his community.  Our community has rallied around and supported many local families through his 4-H club.  He has had an opportunity to help create a garden, contribute to beautifying local parks, place flags at cemeteries for remembrance of those who served in the armed forces and donate food for Thanksgiving meals.

Besides 4-H Alec is actively involved in his church, bible study, and youth group.  He is also a member of the wrestling, cross country, and track teams at the school.  He is also involved in FCA and band.  In addition to school and academic work he is employed at McDonald’s and enjoys collecting WWII paraphernalia.

2015 Queen Riley Price

Riley is a ten-year member of the 76 Clovers 4-H Club and the daughter of Derek and Kathy Price of rural Norris City.

Riley has enjoyed being in and is very active in 4-H.  Of her projects Riley’s favorites are horse, goat, swine, foods, and citizenship.  In horse, Riley has received 3 Jr. High point trophies and the 2015 & 2016 Sr. High point trophies and fun event trophies.  In swine she has had Grand Champion Barrow 4 years in a row and Grand Champion Gilt for 3 years in a row.  In foods, she took a total of 49 food projects during her 4-H years.  In citizenship she received a superior at the State Fair for the past 2 years.

Within the past nine years Riley has received honors of best news reporter for 4 years, best secretary for 1 year, victory award four years, health and safety awards for five years, and community involvement award for three years.

4-H is special to Riley because it teaches you responsibility, leadership, and life skills that can be used throughout your entire life.  In her club, members plan programs, work within committees, hold leadership positions and take a variety of projects that help members learn more about things they are interested in.  To her the best three features of 4-H are the public speaking contests, the community service activities, and of course the 4-H fair!

Other than 4-H Riley is a member of the NCOE volleyball team, and has participated in the SIC summer plays.  Along with her brother Dylan, Riley has participated in many horse shows and won World Buckskin Youth Western Pleasure in Cloverdale Indiana, won Novice Youth Western Pleasure Circuit Champion in Tunica Mississippi, was a finalist at Congress Horse Show in Columbus Ohio, and won the Youth Western Pleasure 14-18 year olds at Illinois State Fair 3 years in a row and at the Kentucky State Fair.  Last October Riley received fourth place in the Novice World Championship of 14-18 year olds in Lexington Virginia.  This year she achieved her youth superior on her quarter horse Parker.
