Mt. Carmel,IL-A first-ever exhibit in Wabash Valley College’s Brubeck Arts Center Gallery is certain to melt hearts and bring smiles to many “children at heart.” Even Linus van Pelt, a character in Charles M. Schultz’s comic strip, “Peanuts,” and best friend of “Charlie Brown,” is almost never seen without his security blanket over his shoulder, a part of Americana since debuting in the June 1, 1954 comic strip.
Tricia Fowler said her mother, Jeanne Wood, of Allendale, had spent “countless hours” making the 14 baby quilts for her grandchildren. The quilts are intricate works of color and design and each a highly individual work of art.
Mrs. Wood make the first quilt for Anna, now 16, a gift from grandmother’s heart, on September 28, 2000.
Mrs. Fowler said her mom had always been a talented seamstress, making clothing, prom dresses, special event creations, and even a ski jacket. And, as with many art forms, she was mentored by her mom who passed down the skill that is a precious art form and beautiful addition to the family home.
Title cards for each quilt on display in the Gallery have been prepared by Mrs. Fowler, wife of WVC President Dr. Matt Fowler. Hundreds of visitors and patrons of Wabash Valley Arts Council are certain to see the unique exhibit in the Gallery which will be on display through the fall theatre production October 14, 15, and 16 in the Brubeck Arts Center.
