The White County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle accident Saturday morning, and uncovered evidence that led to an arrest in a burglary that had just taken place.
Just after 10 am, deputies arrived at the intersection of County Roads 600 North and 1375 East near Concord to find a silver Pontiac Grand Prix on its side. The passenger, 20 year old Tristan Capps of Mt. Vernon, Illinois told responding officers that the driver, 23 year old Tabitha Seabeck of Mt. Vernon, Indiana was bleeding. White County Ambulance personnel and Illinois State Police soon arrived at the scene.
Capps was found to have an active warrant from White County, and was taken into custody. While surveying the crash scene, several items were discovered with the name Hughes on them, and a short time later, Kenneth Hughes came to the scene to inform officers that the car had been seen at his mother’s residence earlier that morning. A further inventory taken at S&E Towing found more items taken from the home of Gladys Hughes.
Seabeck was transported to Deaconness Hospital in Evansville by the White County Ambulance Service. A pipe found on her person tested positive for methamphetamine, and a warrant for her arrest has been requested on charges of burglary, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Capps was transported to the White County Jail and was charged with burglary and theft in addition to the outstanding warrants. He is being held without bail pending a court hearing at the White County Jail.
Saturday night, deputies arrested 34 year old Melissa Browning of Norris City on a charge of DUI after responding to a vehicle off the road on Highway 45 at County Road 900 North. Browning was transported to the White County Jail, where she refused to give a breath sample, and was later released from custody after posting a $300 bond.
