UMCH HOLDS ‘LEARN MORE’ OPEN HOUSE ABOUT HOW TO BECOME A FOSTER PARENT FOR TEENS

MOUNT VERNON, IL – Please join us for the fall kickoff Foster Parent Open House event being held on Wednesday, September 14th, 2016 at the United Methodist Children’s Home, 2023 Richview Road in Mt. Vernon, in the Youth Services Building, from 4:30pm-6:00pm. Refreshments will be provided.

Many people are on the fence about being a foster parent. What does it mean to foster an adolescent youth? How can you become a Foster parent? Let us answer these questions, and more. We will give you all the tools and information you need. Our Foster Program staff will be available to answer all your questions. Visit with our licensing specialist and learn what it takes to be a foster parent for a teenager. You’ll also hear stories from current foster parents living in the area and hear about their experience first-hand.

“The need is growing and we need people to open their hearts and homes to help the youth in this community. We have several teenagers, ages 14 and up, waiting for a home and need to feel a sense of belonging – to be loved.” explains Angie Wilson, Foster Care Supervisor.

UMCH provides a specialized, therapeutic, family-supported Foster Care Program for teens ages 12 to 21, who are moving out of residential treatment or simply need more intensive services that only a foster home can provide. Ideally, we are looking for persons living within a 60 mile radius of Mt. Vernon. The program provides monthly training for the parents, and engagement opportunities with other foster parents to provide continued encouragement, tools, and support. You can make a difference in the life of a youth that needs your guidance, compassion and care!

Couples or individuals who are interested in learning more about Foster Care and how they can
