Late Start Classes Coming Up at SIC

Even though the fall semester began Aug. 15, some classes have not yet started at Southeastern Illinois College.

Mini-semester courses are designed for those looking to pick up more hours or to help students fit in specific courses they may need to finish before graduation.  Online transferable credit courses also make it easier for students at universities to pick up some general classes at a lower cost while at a university.

Online mini-semester courses this fall include American Government, various biofuels and biodiesel courses, Principals of Public Speaking, and Rhetoric and Composition I and II.

Mini-semester on-campus courses include Selected Topics in Literature, Physics – Dynamics, evening welding classes, Illinois Concealed Carry and CPR.

Fitness opportunities include aerobic fitness classes at the Harrisburg campus and Recreational Sports/Pickle Ball at SIC’s David L. Stanley Center in Carmi.

The length of the courses span from four weeks to classes that run through December.  When picking up extra classes, students should also consider the load they already have, so as not to become overwhelmed.

“Some of these short courses are packed with a lot of material covered in a short period of time,” said executive dean of student services, Chad Flannery.  “While we encourage students to add these courses to their schedules, we want them to be prepared and not overburdened.”

Support for students is also offered free in the Dana Keating Student Success Center in A145.  Services include tutoring, special needs accommodations, retesting, technical support services, specialized help for students in vocational/technical programs, computer-aided supplemental materials, support materials, and computer access.
