At Thursday’s Rotary meeting, Morris McCall introduced Bushra Saqib as the program. Bushra and Dr. Saqib’s third child Zainab went to school at Illinois after graduating from Carmi. While there, she met and married Rajeev Ram. Rajeev was born in America to parents from India. He was the No 1 tennis player at Illinois and played on two national championship teams. He has been playing professionally for the past several years. Bushra told the Rotarians that he was playing in the Olympics in Rio. Serena William’s partner in the mixed doubles was injured and Rajeev was selected to team with Serena. They made it to the championship but was edged in the final and won the silver medal. Bushra said that her son in law is back in the states and in Cincinnati playing in a pro tournament this weekend. Next week, he will participate in the US Open. Bushra fielded several questions from the very interested Rotarians.
In club business, President JR Hubele passed around information for the members to read. Lyn Stephens named Dale Peters as the phantom. Bushra was asked to select the 50/50 ticket and drew her own. Unfortunately, she did not select the pink ball so the larger pot rolls over. Rev Scott Baird was a guest of JR Hubele and Rev Randy Douglass. Andy Williams and Little Giant prepared a delicious meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and carrots. Pictures are provided by Kenny Harrelson. The club meets at noon on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Anyone wishing to get involved is encouraged to come help Rotary with the many local projects and charities that are supported.
