ISP District 19 troopers issue 15 tickets on Illinois Speed Awareness Day

Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 participated in the Illinois Speed Awareness Day Campaign on July 27th. This campaign served as an initiative for law enforcement agencies to take a proactive approach to promote safety for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians through both education and enforcement.

During the one day campaign, ISP District 19 issued a total of 15 citations and 52 written warnings. Of those totals, 12 citations and 36 written warnings were issued for speeding violations. According to ISP District 19 Interim Commander Lieutenant Cory Ristvedt, “While we spend a lot of our time through education and enforcement addressing impaired driving, distracted driving, and seat belt use, the basic fact is speeding remains a primary factor in a majority of fatal traffic crashes investigated by troopers.”

Remember, slower speeds allow for better reaction times, shorter stopping distances, and less severe injuries if involved in a traffic crash. Help us keep the traveling public safe and prevent traffic crashes on our roadways, by being mindful of the posted speed limits and obeying the speed limits ALL the time.
