Standing Water on Roadway Blamed for Crash in Wayne County Friday Morning

The heavy rain Friday morning was partially to blame for an accident involving a Jeep and a Mack Semi on US Highway 45.  According to State Police, 44 year old Teresa Smith of Fairfield was traveling southbound on 45 about a tenth of a mile south of CR 1500 North.  Troopers note she was travelling too fast for conditions and driving through standing water, lost control of the vehicle.  In doing so, Smith’s vehicle crossed the center line and into the path of a semi truck with a flatbed trailer being driven by 44 year old Craig Draper of McLeansboro.  Smith’s vehicle struck Draper’s and both vehicles left the roadway.

All parties, including two passengers in Smith’s vehicles were wearing their seatbelts.  All were transported to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.  Smith was cited for Driving Too Fast for Road Conditions and Driving an Uninsured Vehicle.
