District 19 Troopers respond to two accidents with injuries on Saturday

Illinois State Police District 19 troopers responded to two accidents with injuries on Saturday.

At 4:39pm, troopers arrived at the Interstate 64 median, a quarter mile east of marker 109, where 19 year old Fisher Wagner and a 17 year old male juvenile, both of Fairfield, had collided.  According to the preliminary report, the 17 year old stopped his ATV suddenly, causing Wagner to crash his off road motorcycle into the rear of the ATV.

Wagner was taken by Wayne City ambulance to a local hospital, while the juvenile’s parents transported him to a hospital for treatment for his injuries. Both were charged with careless operation of off road vehicles and violating a controlled access highway.  Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Wayne City Fire Protection District and Wayne City Ambulance.

At 11:19pm, troopers responded to a single vehicle accident in Edwards County, where 50 year old Donna Shaner of West Salem ran off the road and struck a fence and utility pole when she lost control of her vehicle swerving to avoid hitting a deer.

Shaner was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.  Troopers were assisted by the Edwards County Sheriff’s Department and the Edwards County Ambulance service.
