At Thursday’s Rotary meeting, Tami Jackson, Director of Marketing and Admissions of Carmi Manor, was introduced by Cindy Conley. Carmi Manor bought Phoenix on November 9, 2015. The 3 owners are from New York but have extensive experience in the nursing home arena. The owner’s together manage 75 facilities while the 2 have rehab expertise and the 3rd is an Administrator of a Nursing Home. Tami noted that the current census is 46 in the 74 bed facility. She told the Rotarians that the facilities are being remodeled and the dining room is being expanded. Video conferencing is being setup to help on communication. Currently, physical, occupational and speech therapy are being performed. Dr. Saqib is the medical director. Dining is buffet style but if somebody wants something not on the buffet, the very capable cooks can prepare the request. The activity department is very active and even has a country store. Residents can purchase items from the store with activity dollars earned from activities that they have participated in. Tami was accompanied by Teresa McIlrath, Administrator of Carmi Manor. Tami and Teresa fielded several questions from the Rotarians.
In club business, members discussed several events coming up in the near future. On June 30, the annual fish fry will be held at Morris McCall’s home. On July 1, the Rotarians will lead a Patriotic caroling. Members and other interested in singing will visit Carmi Manor, Wabash Christian Retirement, Evergreen Acres as well as other facilities. Anyone wishing to participate can contact any Rotarian. Finally, the Rotarians will make their annual visit to see the Otters play on July 7th. Sherri Logan won the 50/50 drawing but failed to select the pink ball so the pot rolls over. Sherri Logan was named the phantom. Andy Williams and Little Giant prepared a delicious meal of pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy and carrots. Pictures are provided by Kenny Harrelson. The club meets at noon on Thursday at the First United Methodist Church. Anyone wishing to get involved is encouraged to come help Rotary with the many local projects and charities that are supported.
