ICC to Host Summer Preparedness Policy Session

CHICAGO – The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) will host a Summer Preparedness policy session on Thursday, May 26 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm.

The purpose of the session is to ensure that utilities, generators and regional transmission organizations (RTOs) remain ready to provide safe, reliable and affordable electricity in the upcoming summer months, when demand is typically high.

“The summer preparedness policy session is an opportunity to learn how the RTOs and utilities have prepared to meet the energy needs of Illinois residents during the warm summer months, and how they plan to overcome potential weather and distribution system challenges,” said Commissioner John R. Rosales.

The session will feature presentations from several Illinois electric utilities, each with a unique footprint and each having both similar and unique seasonal issues and strategies. The scheduled Utility Summer Preparedness presenters include:

 Commonwealth Edison Company – Electricity provider for 3.8 million customers in Illinois, including the

City of Chicago, collar counties and Northern Illinois. Terence R. Donnelly, Executive VP and COO, and Michelle Blaise, Sr. VP of Technical Services, will speak on behalf of the Commonwealth Edison Company.

 Ameren Illinois Company – Electricity provider for 1.2 million Illinois customers in Central and Southern

Illinois. Ron Pate, Sr. VP of Operations and Technical Services; Shawn Schukar, Sr. VP of Transmission Development/Project Management and Brice Sheriff, Director of Regulatory Affairs, will speak on behalf of Ameren Illinois.

 MidAmerican Energy Company – Electricity provider for 85,000 Illinois customers in Northwestern

Illinois. Jeff Gust, VP of Compliance and Planning, will speak on behalf of MidAmerican Energy Company.

Additionally, both RTOs operating in Illinois will give presentations about how the summer months affect their duties to manage electric transmission. The scheduled RTO Summer Preparedness presenters include:

 Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) – The wholesale electricity provider for the Central and Southern portions of Illinois. Robert Benbow, Sr. Director of System Wide Operations, will speak on behalf of MISO.

 PJM Interconnection – The wholesale electricity provider for the Northern region of Illinois. Richard Mathias, Sr. Consultant, will speak on behalf of PJM.

The discussion will take place in the Main Hearing Room at the ICC’s Chicago Office located at 160 N. LaSalle Street, Ste. C-800, Chicago, IL 60601. Audio access will be available via the ICC Website.
