Food Sanitation courses hitting Ina, Pinckneyville campuses this summer

Professionals in the culinary industry have plenty of options to enroll in one of Rend Lake College’s two-day Food Sanitation courses this summer. In the courses, students will get up-to-date information on correct procedures and laws relating to sanitation in their workplace.

In this comprehensive class, students will learn to identify the causes of food-borne illnesses and identify and apply the correct procedures for cleaning and sanitizing. Special attention will be paid to recognizing problems and potential solutions associated with a facility, equipment, and layout. Students will also learn about the Illinois code related to food service establishments.

Successful completion of this course prepares students to take the ServSafe Examination for Management and Sanitation Training, which will be given at the end of the second session. Students should bring photo identification with them to class to take the exam.

The first course is scheduled for 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, May 21 and Saturday, May 28 at the Murphy-Wall Pinckneyville Campus, Room 102. A second class will be held on the Ina campus from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 30 and Saturday, Aug. 6 in the Advanced Technology Center, Room 118, on the Ina campus.

The course costs $175 and is taught by instructor Jeff Fairbanks. Students will also need to purchase the ServSafe Essentials Textbook, available at the RLC Bookstore or online.
