Weekend arrests highlight Sheriff’s Department report

The White County Sheriff’s Department along with the White County Ambulance Service responded to a call about a possible suicide attempt on James Avenue Friday morning.  Deputies arrived at 8:22am to find 25 year old Nathan Johnson with multiple cuts on his arm and slurred speech.  Johnson informed the deputies that he had ingested multiple medications and had inflicted the injuries himself.

After being treated at the scene by Ambulance personnel, Johnson refused to be taken to the hospital as required and forced responding deputies to physically restrain Johnson after a brief scuffle.  Johnson was handcuffed and placed in the ambulance for transport.  He has been charged with obstructing justice.

Sunday afternoon, 34 year old Gary Gwaltney surrendered himself at the Sheriff’s Department to answer a White County warrant for battery.  Gwaltney was arrested at 1:44pm and was released from the Jail after posting a $150 bond.
