WCHSOne of the region, if not country’s foremost experts on Communal Studies presented a program Monday night at the White County Historical Society’s annual Spring Dinner.  Pitzer is Professor Emeritus of History and Director Emeritus of the Center for Communal Studies at the University of Southern Indiana.  The Center will celebrate its 40th anniversary in July.  Dr. Pitzer has been honored with the Hoosier Historian Award from the Indiana Historical Society and began researching the Harmonist and Owenite communities of New Harmony in 1967.  Since then, he’s traveled across the United States and overseas from Israel to China studying hundreds of religious and secular groups.

Within the program, Pitzer focused on examples of Authoritarianism, Communitarianism, Humanitarianism, and Millenialism.  Listen in to Pitzer’s presentation at https://soundcloud.com/wroywrul/white-county-historical-society-meeting-dr-donald-pitzer
