Fairfield Memorial Hospital Social Service staff member, Samantha Gill, has recently become a Licensed Social Worker. Ms. Gill has a master’s in social work and is working toward becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), which she can obtain after a period of supervised work experience.

“Receiving licensure was important to me as it was a way to show my dedication to the social work profession, but more importantly to show my dedication to working hard to serve patients to the best of my ability. I appreciate the support and encouragement I received from FMH administration, my colleagues and family as I pursued my LSW and look forward to continuing my education as I complete supervision and work toward obtaining my LCSW,” stated Samantha Gill, LSW, FMH Social Services.

As a social worker at Fairfield Memorial Hospital, Ms. Gill helps patients and their families understand the particular illness, work through the emotions of a diagnosis, and provide counseling about the decisions that need to be made including discharge planning or end of life care. She is an essential member of the hospital’s interdisciplinary team. Working closely with doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals, the social worker sensitizes other health care providers to the social and emotional aspects of a patient’s illness. She uses case management skills to help patients and their families address and resolve the social, financial and psychological problems related to their health condition.
