
The Carmi-White County Softball team fell to Edwards County Thursday in extra innings, falling 8-7.
The Lady Bulldogs fell in a hole early, Edwards County jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st inning on a 2-run home run by Grace Bishop.
Carmi finally cracked the scoreboard in the 4th inning, scoring 3 runs thanks to RBI singles by Mia Evans and Lindsay Simmons, giving the Lady Dogs a 3-2 lead.
That lead went right back to the red and black in the home 4th as Edwards County plated 2, taking a 4-3 lead. They added 3 more in the 5th inning on an RBI double and Bishop’s second homer of the day. Lady Lions led 7-3 after 5.
The Lady Bulldogs kept chipping away, cutting the deficit to 7-4 in the 6th inning on another RBI single by Lindsay Simmons.
In the 7th, Ashlyn Rager made it a 7-5 game with an RBI on an error committed by the Lady Lions, but after a fly out, the Lady Bulldogs were down to their final strike.
Mia Evans stepped up to the plate with runners at first and second and 2 outs. Evans doubled off the center field wall, scoring Caroline Simmons and Rager to tie the game at 7-7. We would head to extra innings.
Carmi’s comeback was all for not, as Edwards County’s Braelyn Troyer ended the game with a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 8th innning, giving the Lady Lions an 8-7 win.
Lindsay Simmons takes the loss in the circle, surrendering 7 runs on 9 hits with 7 strikeouts.
