Just before 6 AM on March 11th, a Mount Vernon, Indiana, police officer was patrolling an area of Highway 62 when a truck pulled out in front of him, causing him to brake quickly. The officer conducted a traffic stop on the individual named Keyton Whitney.
The officer noticed the odor of marijuana on Whitney’s breath and that his eyes were bloodshot. Whitney did confess that he smoked marijuana in the truck before driving to work that morning, and during the search, the officer found marijuana inside the vehicle.
Whitney was transported to the Posey County Jail for a charge of Operating While Intoxicated, but that changed.
Once at the jail, Whitney admitted that he had hidden a pipe inside his pants. The pipe tested positive for methamphetamine. His charges were enhanced due to the illegal substance and item found in the jail.
As a result of his actions, Whitney now faces a total of five charges: Possession of Methamphetamine in a Penal Facility, Possession of Methamphetamine, Operating While Intoxicated (Endangered), Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia.
