A Carmi man is dead following an oil field accident Monday. White County Sheriff Jordan Weiss has issued a release saying officials with his department along with Crossville Fire and White County EMS responded Monday afternoon to a fire in the Calvin area with a possible deceased individual. Upon arrival, a man was found in the fire by a pumping unit via a drone. After the fire was contained, authorities including White County Coroner Chris Marsh began their investigation. They were able to identify Donald Sims of Carmi by a wallet found near a truck. Sims worked for Cantrell Oil Company. An autopsy is scheduled for today. Sheriff Weiss offered his condolences to the family of Mr. Sims.
