Indiana State Police busy in Posey County Wednesday night

An Evansville man and woman woke up behind bars this morning after their arrest in Posey County last night on charges of possession of meth and pot.  State Police in Indiana say they stopped the couple at Hucks in Mt. Vernon Tuesday evening just after 8 o’clock for having a defective license plate.

While visiting with the driver, Trooper Rubenacker says he detected an odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and called in a K-9 unit for a closer inspection.  The police dog alerted officers to the presence of narcotics and a subsequent search revealed small amounts of both drugs.

Troopers arrested 28 year old Kayla Rhodes-Powell of Evansville and her passenger, 28 year old Jessy Durham of Evansville.  The two remain jailed in Posey County where they’re being held on bond.

About 2 hours later, State Police initiated a criminal investigation at a home on Vine Street in Mt. Vernon after receiving information there was illegal drug activity happening in the area.  About 10:10pm, troopers searched the home of 39 year old Katie Gaff and found pot, several pipes containing meth and several small bags containing meth.  Troopers also say they found a ledger which indicated alleged illegal drug activity.

Gaff was placed under arrest and has been charged with maintaining a common nuisance, dealing meth, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.  Gaff also had a felony warrant out for her arrest from Vanderburgh County on a petition to revoke probation.  Troopers also took a visitor of the Gaff home into custody, 39 year old Nathan Crowley of Evansville and he’s being charged with visiting a common nuisance.
