Three Sentenced in White County Court Monday; One “Open Plea of Guilty” Entered

A 29 year old Carmi man, Andrew P. Horne, will be spending 30 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by 3 years up to his natural life Mandatory Supervised Release, after he was found guilty in White County Court Monday on a class x charge of Child Pornography. Horne’s case was investigated by the Illinois Crimes Against Children Task Force.

52 year old, Jeffrey M. Newman, of Carmi, was sentenced Monday in White County Court to 3 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections followed by 2 years of Mandatory Supervised Release on a class 2 felony charge of Unlawful Use of Property. Newman was apprehended as part of Operation Dealers Choice.

A 26 year old Carmi man, Rex D. Reel, will be serving a 2 year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections, followed by 1 year of Mandatory Supervised Release after being found guilty in White County Court Monday on a class 2 felony charge of Escape. Reel was convicted of violating his electronic home monitoring while on parole. He had been apprehended by the Carmi Police Department.

37 year old Kendra O’Brien, of Carmi, entered an “open plea of guilty” in White County Court Monday to a class 1 felony of Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine and a class 3 felony of Aggravated Battery. These cases are unrelated. O’Brien was on bond for the Aggravated Battery when the Unlawful Delivery of Methamphetamine occurred; therefore, if she is sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections, the sentences must run consecutively. The class 1 felony carries with it a penalty of 4-15 years while the class 3 felony carries a possible 2-5 years. Consequently, if she is sentenced to the Illinois Department of Corrections, she is looking at between 6-20 years. Both offenses are eligible for a sentence of probation as well. O’Brien was investigated by the Southern Illinois Drug Task Force and was arrested as part of Operation Dealers Choice. A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for April 13.
