According to Illinois State Police District 19, at approximately 7:49 AM Friday, a 1991 Chevrolet truck driven by 19 year old Dakota D. Skelton of Carbondale was traveling southbound on US Route 45 just North of Hilton Road in Saline County, when Skelton attempted to pass the vehicle in front of him. As he began to pass it and crossed the center line, he struck a 2019 Ford Explorer, driven by 71 year old David A. DeLucia of Harrisburg, head-on.
Skelton, his passenger, 27 year old Ashunti S. Owens of Harrisburg, and DeLucia were all injured in the crash. Each were transported by ambulance to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. Both vehicles had to be removed from the crash scene by a tow service.
Charges are yet to be made, pending an investigation.
