The tax levy for 2019 was approved. It will be extended in the summer of 2020 and the district will spend the money during the 2020-21 school year, beginning July 1st 2020. The final projected tax rate of 3.8 is lower than the 3.9 from last year.
They also approved applying for the FY 20 School Maintenance Project Grant not to exceed $50,000, with the board contributing $50,000 from local funds.
The board accepted the bid of Berkely Casualty Company recommended by Bushue Human Resources for Workers Compensation Insurance Coverage. It’s for the period of January 1st through December 31st of 2020 at a total premium of $104,374.
They accepted the recommendation from Transportation Director Bart King for the lease/purchase of one 63-passenger school bus with a lift from Midwest Bus Sales in the amount of $22,842.80 per year for a five year period.
In his superintendent’s report, Brad Lee said school will be closed Monday, December 23rd through Wednesday, January 1st 2020 for Christmas vacation. Students and staff will return to school on Thursday, January 2nd.
And the Illinois Student Assistance Commission has recognized six CWCHS students as Illinois State Scholars. They are Marie Blankenberger, Alexis Conner, Peyton Dixon, Elizabeth Gwaltney, Olivia Gwaltney and Sydney Lucas.
In other business, the board accepted the bid for servicing their fire extinguisher equipment, accepted the bids for three district vehicles that were declared surplus property, declared several district items as surplus items, accepted the retirement of Chris Courty at the end of the 2023-2024 school year, an extended leave request from Lori Taylor and a leave of absence for Alison Childers beginning approximately March 13 of 2020 and returning to work on the first day of the 2020-2021 school year and the resignation of Ariana Watts as Junior HIgh School Assistant Girl’s Volleyball Coach effective this month.
The board went into closed session at 7:17 PM.
In the closed session following the regular school board meeting, the board voted to employ Nathelee Huff as a Pre-Kindergarten Classroom Aide at Washington Attendance Center to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Susan Keck. Ben Bradshaw was employed as 5th Grade Boys’ Basketball Coach to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Tomas Brandt. Josh Girten was employed as the 6th Grade Boys’ Basketball Coach to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jonathan Goemaat. The board voted to employ Matt Campbell as a 5th/6th Grade Volunteer Boys’ Basketball Coach. Alyse Jensik was employed as a Special Education Individual Aide at the Carmi-White County High School. Joe Jordan was employed as a Building Custodian at the Carmi-White County Junior/Senior High School to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of John Bingman.
