Southeastern Illinois College will welcome and honor local veterans at the annual Veterans Recognition Ceremony Friday, Nov. 8. The ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m. in the George T. Dennis Visual and Performance Arts Center lobby. All veterans and members of the community are invited to attend the ceremony.
Presentation of colors, a wreath laying by the Michael Hillegas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and musical performances by the pre-K class of the Mary Jo Oldham Center for Child Study will again be a part of the festivities. Light refreshments will also be served.
Josh Richardson of Carrier Mills will be the keynote speaker for this event. Richardson was a Specialist in the Army from 2002-2007 and was in the B. Company 1/63 Armor Regiment in Vilseck, Germany.
This event will also allow SIC Student Government to launch a fundraising effort, the Veterans Old Glory Brick Campaign. The purpose of this project is to honor our country’s servicemen and women by adorning the flagpole on the south side of campus in front of the Harry W. Abell Administration Building, the George T. Dennis Visual and Performing Arts Center, and the new Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art. This project is made possible with support from the SIC Foundation. Sales of bricks will continue through commencement in May.
For questions about special services SIC provides for military families or more information about the ceremony, contact Kyla Burford at 618-252-5400, ext. 2440 or [email protected].
