McLeansboro City Council Discusses Sewer and Water Improvements at Meeting Tuesday

The council members approved their engineers recommendation of a $205,000 bid from Microcom to authorize Mayor Dick Dietz to execute the contract and related documents for the proposed water system improvements.

After all the details have been worked out with the sewer and water committee, the preliminary engineering report findings will be submitted to the USDA on the sewer system.

Smoke testing of the sanitary water mains was held recently.

An ordinance was approved authorizing the issuance of up to $2.4 million in Waterworks and Sewerage System Revenue Bonds of the city and county to defray the cost of acquiring, constructing, improving and extending waterworks and sewerage facilities.

A TIF District reimbursement request by Tom Wolf of MC Sales LLC for the Dairy Queen at 134 East Market Street was approved in the amount of $5,061.16, as was a TIF application from Kelly and Paul Karcher for 101 East Main Street.

Action on a TIF application from Harold and Phyllis Vanover for 110 West Market Street was tabled due to the paperwork not yet being in.

A resolution was approved closing and/or rerouting certain State highways and/or City streets for the December 7th City Christmas Parade at 6 PM.

A $2,000 donation was made to the Hamilton Memorial Hospital Foundation.

Some board members noted that there is grant money available for various projects, although the grants are not always easy to obtain. Mayor Dietz said to be careful on how they get the grants and how the money is spent.

Zoning Administrator Pat Stevens gave her report on the cleanup and repairs and/or demolition of various properties.

Chris Houton was to speak on recommendations from the Hamilton County Economic Development Commission, but was unable to attend.

After a 26 minute executive session, Tyler Wellen was hired for the water department and entered into an employment agreement with Police Chief John Nathan Taylor. Taylor has outside employment and needs to notify the board of any changes.
