Two people are hospitalized following a three vehicle traffic crash on IL Route 14 Tuesday afternoon (October 1). According to the Illinois State Police, 39 year old Travis J. Vaughan of Barnhill was driving eastbound and slowed to turn south on County Road 500E. Merle E. Langley, 50, of McLeansboro was eastbound behind Vaughn, and also slowed down. 43 year old Jeremy E. Rush, of Springerton, was eastbound behind Langley and for unknown reasons failed to slow down, striking the rear of Langley’s 2016 Dodge Ram, pushing it into the rear of Vaughan’s 2006 Chevy Silverado. All three vehicles came to rest off the north side of IL Route 14 with Rush’s 2016 Ford F150 overturning in a creek. Both Langley and Rush were taken by Life Flight to a regional hospital, while Vaughan was uninjured and released at the scene. Rush was cited for Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash. The Illinois State Police were assisted by the White County Ambulance Service, Enfield Fire Department, Life Flight, White County Sheriff’s Office, and IDOT.
