Grayville is closing in on getting a new full time chief of police. Council was not prepared to name the individual at Monday night’s meeting however and instead announced the police committee would be setting up a meeting with the selected individual. Mayor Travis Thompson said they still have to “hammer out the details” with the individual. Current Police Chief Roy Mann will be stepping down in the coming weeks as he prepares to join his family in Wyoming.
Also at Monday night’s meeting, Keith Botsch presented the 59 page annual audit ending April 30th. He says while there were no improprieties or issues, the general fund is low. Finance Commissioner David Jordan mentioned in his notes that a 3 month period with and without Borowiak’s showed more than $10,000 in lost revenue. He says while he understands all of that can’t be directly related to the grocer’s closure, it is indicative of the woes the general fund is facing given that the fund’s main sources of revenue are property, sales and income taxes.
Mayor Thompson says another abandoned property is coming down in the coming week.
Employee evaluations are set to begin at the beginning of October. Councilman Donovan Baldwin voted no on that measure.
Keeping with his staunch opposition to legal cannabis use, David Jordan was the lone no vote to the ordinance 877 amendment to the zoning chapter.
The council approved the 2019 Motor Fuel Tax Program as well Monday night.
The Grayville VFW will be soliciting donations for Flag Day on November 9th with a potential rain date of the following Saturday, November 16th.
And the Grayville Chamber of Commerce received authorization to have North Street closed for their annual car show scheduled for October 6th.
