Do you make a good or mean pot of chili? The Carmi Kiwanis Club wants you to prove it. The annual Kiwanis Club Chili Cook-Off contest is looking for contestants and will be offering cash prizes and trophies for multiple categories. The contest isn’t until October 11th, the date of the 92nd annual Corn Days festivities, but event chairwomen need to know if you’re planning to participate as soon as possible.
Among the prizes that will be awarded include Taster’s Choice, good for $100. Most Team Spirit gets $50…yes, you’re encouraged to have a theme and multiple team members for this prize. More straightforward honors include Judge’s First Place with a $200 check going to that team. Second place gains $100 and Third gets $50.
Attendees will play a role in judging. A dollar allows you to become a taste test judge and place your vote. Water will also be available for purchase. Awards will be handed out at 12:15pm.
The contest will start at 11am from Veteran’s Memorial Park in Carmi. Teams will need to make about gallons of their chili and bring along with it their own heating element if needed, extension cord and table for display. Pre-registration with a $25 entry fee is required. To enter, contact Kati Sturgal at 618-382-8390 or Andrea Hays at 618-387-2321. Both women also have offices in Carmi.
