Evansville Man Arrested for Possessing Loaded Firearm Thursday Afternoon

An Evansville man is behind bars without bond after Indiana State Troopers used their keen instincts to determine something was up.  The release states a trooper pulled over 32 year old Trevel Carpenter of Evansville near the intersection of Henning and Ravenswood after seeing Carpenter throwing a cigarette butt out the window of a vehicle with 5 individuals inside.
Due to what they called suspicious activity, the trooper requested an Evansville Police K-9.  That dog subsequently alerted law enforcement to the presence of narcotics.  In addition to marijuana, troopers also found a .45 caliber handgun that they say belonged to Carpenter.  Because he also had an active felony warrant out of Vanderburgh County, and due to him already being a convicted felon and therefore not allowed to be in possession of a firearm, he was arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail.  Official charges Carpenter faces include Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon, a Level 4 Felony…Possession of a Firearm with Prior Conviction, a Level 4 Felony…Providing False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer, a misdemeanor, and Possession of Marijuana…another misdemeanor.
