Officials say the dog that belongs to the Murphy’s showed no signs of trauma following official complaints signed this morning. Animal Control Officer Linda Aud says that 3 individuals signed formal complaints prompting her to visit State’s Attorney Denton Aud this morning and a wellness check on the 72 pound lab/pit mix. Donna Harrelson, Paula Cox and one other individual said they witnessed one of the men kicking and hitting the dog Friday.
The animal is current on it’s shots as of two weeks ago and Aud says she’ll be doing routine once a week checks on the animal following the reports. Two years ago, a resident of Carmi lost her dog and it turned up several days later as the Murphy’s had found it and taken possession of it. Tucker alleged at the time when she got the dog back that it was acting strange and told Aud she believed the dog had been sexual assaulted. That animal was taken to multiple vets for thorough checks and physicians said there was no evidence of assault and no charges ever stemmed from it.
A couple weeks ago, Aud says she was called on to talk to the men about letting their dog relieve itself in neighbor’s yards.
When the Murphy’s home burned down earlier this year, a dog and 13 cats were in the home. All but two were presumed to have died with the official cause of death being smoke inhalation. Aud says none of those animals showed any signs of trauma either.
A retired pastor, Michael LeBune helped coordinate fundraising efforts to get the men into their new home on 1st Street.
