This reporter would be shocked if farmers are optimistic as they plan to head into fields for the 23rd annual White County Crop Tour. It should be a rough find given the difficulties farmers have faced this year. White County Farm Bureau Manager Doug Anderson says the Crop Tour has been scheduled for Wednesday, September 4th. Anyone is welcome to participate. You should plan to be at the farm bureau by 7am for breakfast and a breakdown of instructions. Individuals will be broken into teams who will depart around 7:30 and be sent to one of 10 townships throughout White County.
Data from at least 8 different fields in each township will be collected before groups return around 11am for lunch and accumulation of data. A complete report is available to those who help out same day while the public will learn details the following day, September 5th.
Farmers who DON’T want crop tour participants in their fields will need to contact the Farm Bureau office prior to September 4th. Phone 618-382-8512 for details. The annual information gathering is sponsored courtesy of the White County Farm Bureau, Wabash Valley Service Company and Consolidated Grain & Barge out of Enfield.
