Sad news to report from the local restaurant scene as longtime owner and cook at Gottzz’s restaurant, Tony Gott has passed away. Even if you never met Tony, but you’ve been to Gottzz’s anytime over the last several years, you’ve heard him. His iconic “Order Up!” holler could easily be heard over even the most raucous chatter from crowds that gathered at one of Carmi’s favorite eateries.
Tony was hospitalized about 3 weeks ago and has been struggling to get better. Gott and his wife Carla owned the eatery up until about 5 years ago when they sold the business to Denton and Abby Weiss. Even still, Tony continued to help out in the kitchen.
Easily likable, rarely without a smile on his snow white bearded face, Tony’s death comes as a shock to many despite his recent illness. Friends describe him as rarely sick, always in a good mood and just a joy to be around.
