The Carmi Unit 5 School Board comes together this evening. The Board is expected to formally accept resignations from Schotzy Allen, a Special Ed Individual Aide at Washington, Deanna Winter, a dishwasher at Lincoln, and Jeremiah Downen, building custodian at the Junior/Senior High. The District has been the recipient of a donation in support of an updated security camera system. Banterra Bank made the $2,500 gift. Bills and the Treasurer’s Report will be reviewed. Unit 5’s Payroll for July comes to $601,080.33.
The board will also consider a substitute teacher pay increase suggested by Superintendent Brad Lee. He says even though Unit 5 increased the pay rate to $75 two years ago, the district is still on the low end for Region 20. He’ll submit a recommendation of increasing the substitute pay rate to $90 per day.
Lee also says he’s been approached by a staff member requesting to bring a therapy dog to class with the goal to provide emotional support. In his comments, he says there have been students in the past requiring a service dog and feels it would be in the school system’s best interest to have a service animal policy.
A closed session is also on the agenda for tonight. Potential action to follow includes employment of a part time dishwasher at Lincoln, a Special Education Individual Aide for Washington, Building Custodian at Washington, Special Ed Individual Aide at the Junior High, Head Cook at the Jr/Sr High School, and also approval of Junior/Senior High Volunteer Coaches. The board will also consider ratification of a collective bargaining agreement with the Support Staff Association.
Scott Mareing will have the meeting covered for WROY/WRUL News and have a detailed look at what happens tomorrow morning.
