Crash Reveals Probation Violation; Steele Should Remain Behind Bars for Awhile Now; ISP CSI in Enfield; and Spat Results in Criminal Damage to Property

A traffic crash Monday afternoon turned into a probation violation arrest for Carmi Police.  The accident happened at the intersection of Main and Walmart nearing 2:30pm.  The investigation revealed one of those involved, 36 year old Melissa Melvin who also goes by Melissa Melvin of Norris City, was wanted out of Saline County on that probation violation.  Her bond was set at $1,000…she posted $400 cash and $600 bail along with her $20 booking fee.

28 year old James Steele is expected to now be behind bars for some time following his arrest Saturday by White County Sheriff’s Deputies.  Steele was found at Lewis Scrap Yard in Burnt Praire riding a Honda 4 Wheeler that had been reported stolen from an Enfield resident.  In addition to a new charge of possession of stolen property, he was also picked up on a warrant for violation of his order of protection against his mother.  He has a laundry list of charges for recent arrests including meth charges.

Illinois State Police are now on the case following a call to an Enfield home on a burglary complaint.  Monday morning, Janet Burton of Mt. Vernon, Illinois reports to White County law enforcement she is now the sole heir of her late mother’s residence in Enfield.  She reported to deputies that she had the locks changed a few months ago and hasn’t been at the residence since then.  While checking in, she noticed the back door opened and a 32 inch tv taken from the living room.  In addition, the refrigerator had been moved and the front door was taken off, Burton assumes because the burglar was trying to get the fridge out the back door.  Blood was found on the back door of the home.  State Police crime scene investigators will attempt to determine the owner of that sample.

A criminal damage to property report followed a dispute between two Enfield gentlemen White County Sheriff’s Deputies say has been ongoing.  The officer says he responded to a Main Street Enfield residence to deal with 40 year old Shawn Burgess and 34 year old Cary Cone.  The report indicates the lawn enforcement official knew that Cone and Burgess were once involved in a relationship together and that the two live in adjoining properties.  Alternate versions of a story ensued that resulted in the damage to the front door of Cone’s home.  The report was filed and the two have said they’ll stay away from each other.
