Carmi Sewer Lines Set to Be Smoked Beginning Wednesday

City of Carmi Sewer Foreman Keith Large says his department will begin the process of smoking sewer lines this week.  The process is an inspection method utilizing a non toxic smoke that’s not harmful to people or pets blown into manholes.  The smoke makes its way through connected pipes in the sanitary sewer helping workers locate leaks, broken manholes, cracks, uncapped lines and other issues.  Large says crews will begin on Wednesday most likely due to the rain this morning.  Sewer line smoking will begin on Stewart Street from 1000 East and head toward 5th and eventually over to Shipley.  If you have any questions or concerns, reach the city at 382 – 8118.
