Things started out well last night for Carmi American Legion Post 224 scoring 3 runs in the top of the 1st and allowing Harrisburg only 1 run in the bottom half. Harrisburg couldn’t be contained however and a big 2nd inning proved the difference as Harrisburg ended up running away from Carmi at SIU last night by a 14-5 score. Jason Mendenhall took the loss for Post 224 as he allowed 6 runs on 4 hits and was unable to strike anyone out while walking 3. Wade Sauls pitched 2 innings of relief followed by Jacob Lamont who gave up an additional 4 Harrisburg runs in the 5th. Brandon Skaggs pitched Post 224 through the final 2 innings. Only 4 of Harrisburg’s 14 were earned runs as Carmi committed 5 errors. Harrisburg outhit Post 224 just 12-7. Cal York went 2 for 3 in a losing effort and batted in 2 of Carmi’s runs. Cole Blazier also had 2 RBI’s. Brody Atteberry pushed across the other Carmi run.
Post 224 is back in action today playing Fairfield in Harrisburg. If Carmi wins, they’ll play Harrisburg at 7:30, following their matchup with Fairfield. If they lose, Post 224 will be done for the year.
