Legion Opens Season with a Split
The Carmi American Legion Post 224 Baseball team opened their season this weekend with a double header against Fairfield, with the locals winning one of the two.
The Carmi team beat Fairfield 5 to 2 in the first game played Sunday. Justin Lamp picked up the win for Carmi.
Scoring for Carmi were Simmons, Skaggs, Black, Blazier and York.
Fairfield came back in the second game to beat the locals 8 to 5.
Lamont, Blazier, Fulkerson, Atteberry, and Sauls scored in the game, but not enough to match Fairfield’s eight runs.
That leaves the locals one and one on the season and in the legion division.
The Carmi team will play at 6 Tuesday night at Mt. Vernon, Ind.
Wednesday, the team will be at home as they host Evansville Pate at 7 p.m.
The Friday night game against Princeton was cancelled as the Princeton Legion could not field a team this year.
The Carmi team will be at Harrisburg this Sunday, June 9 for a double header starting at 1:30 that afternoon.
