We’ve learned the identity and additional details behind the early morning crash that left one man dead on Route 141 just west of County Road 1600 East in White County. Illinois State Police handled the crash report and say their investigation shows a 2008 Ford Focus driven by 31 year old Matthew D. .Rider was westbound when for unknown reasons, he crossed the center line and into the path of a 2018 Mack Semi with a tanker trailer in haul. Rider of Shawneetown was pronounced dead at the scene by the White County Coroner. The semi was driven by 61 year old David Casey of Equality. He was unharmed.
That portion of 141 was closed until about a quarter after 11 Thursday morning. The information released is preliminary and the accident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police. A Reconstruction Officer has joined the team. Rider’s vehicle was removed courtesy of Cherry Street Automotive while the semi was hauled thanks to Hazelwood Towing & Recovery.
The White County Sheriff’s Department, Carmi Fire, White County Ambulance personnel, coroner, IDOT officials all worked the scene.
