Shriners Donate to K-9 Fund
The local Ahava Shrine Club recently donated $2,200 to the Carmi Police Department K-9 Fund.
Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter said, “We greatly appreciate the support of the Ahava Shriners and all the other businesses and individuals that have donated and hope future businesses and others see the positive benefits of continuing to have a full service K-9 on our department to meet these needs.”
Ahave Shrine Club President Chris Roper stated club members had observed the need for a new K-9 and thought this would be a great way to help both the community and children at the same time.
The Carmi Police Department is currently in the process of retiring current K-9, Orest, who is suffering from health issues and it has been recommended Orest be retired.
Local police are asking for the communities help in replacing Orest. Canines are specially trained and can be used for officer protection, criminal apprehension, building searches, evidence recovery, crowd control, article and drug searches, tracking of wanted and missing people, plus help with community programs, such as visiting students.
Carter said if you are able to support the program in any way, all donations are appreciated.
Donations can be made in any manner and checks should be made payable to the Carmi Police Department K-9 Fund. The donations can be dropped off at the police department at 108 North Main Cross Street, or mailed to that address; Carmi, zip; 62821.
The donations are tax deductable, and a receipt can be requested for one’s tax records.
