Brief, Productive Meeting for White County Board

Brief and Productive Meeting For County Board

While the White County Board meeting was less than ten minutes long Tuesday night, the board took care of several items of business.

Board Chairman Donnie Puckett was out of town, so Ron McAnulty ran the meeting covering business in what may be record time.

The board approved an ordinance covering towing fees for impounded vehicles from the White County Sheriff’s Department. Sheriff Doug Maier explained the county was following the lead of the county villages and cities.

He explained not all offenses will result in impounded vehicles. However, those unfortunate enough to have a vehicle impounded will find it cost $300 a day.

Mike Frashier was reappointed to the Rides Mass Transit Board for a four year term, ending on March 10, 2023.

Kenny Usery was appointed to the Southeastern Illinois Economic Development Authority. McAnulty explained there is an on-going effort to revive the “authority” and board members of the 14 counties in the authority are being asked to serve on the board.

A number of resolutions concerning road work and the highway department were approved.

A resolution to accept proposed bids for furnished materials was approved as it is required for the 2019 motor fuel tax program.

A second resolution covering the county townships was also approved.

Finally the board approved a resolution for a federal aid agreement to help cover the cost of resurfacing three miles of the Bel Air Road, near Highway 141. Ray explained the federal government will cover $1.4 million of the project cost; the state will pay $300,000 and with the approval of the resolution, the county will pay $15,000.

With no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:08. The next county board meeting will  be at 7 pm, Tuesday, May 14.
