Busy Productive Meeting for Grayville Commissioners

Busy Productive Meeting for Grayville Commissioners

It was a brisk 30 minutes, but it was long enough to get some business done and spend some money last night for the Grayville City Council, minus Commissioners Josh Downs, Bob Stroud and City Attorney Jay Walden.

City Treasurer Sharon Walden kicked things off saying the city has a little over 2 million in assets. That includes $10,177.75 in Streets, $6,488.61 in Bonds, $1,006,931.42 in restricted funds, $882,678.28, and $143,582.03 in cash available.

Only one purchase order was up for approval in the amount of $1,100 for the purchase of 12 automation for the water tower telemetry.

The council then turned its attention to zoning ordinance 866 amending Ordinance 443 from May 19th of 1986 which would allow for special permit apartments in the in the business district. The point of that amended ordinance would make itself clear 5 items down the stack with a request for TIF District #1 funds. Donovan Baldwin and Pam House have purchased the former Horste Building and have plans to rehab the downstairs for a community center and plan to eventually make apartments for rent in the upstairs. The estimated cost of the project is reported at just under $40,000. Commissioner Brock suggested granting money in the amount of $25,000. The motion passed unanimously.

Grayville authorities along with other municipalities will meet with White County brass regarding dispatch services this Wednesday at 8am. The White County Board recently sent letters to surrounding villages asking them to up their financial support for dispatch efforts.

Grayville is also updating their water tap fee schedule. The current fee for ¾ service tapped to a 4 or 6 inch main outside city limits is going up from $750 to $1,125. Water tap fees for 1 inch service tapped on to 4 or 6 inch mains for inside the city limits customers is going up from $750 to $1,000 and for outside the city limits to $1,500. Not on the original agenda, but snowballed in are gas taps, which will go from $300 to $350.

With a union meeting coming up on the 23rd, Grayville Council was forced to set a special meeting date for collective bargaining discussions. They have set that meeting for Friday, January 18th at 8am. Furthermore, with two council members absent and David Jordan expected to be out on February 11th, Council changed that meeting date to Monday, February 4th at 7pm.

Jordan reported oil income of $1,637.51 in his report and mentioned that all departments had been given a copy of the upcoming budget. Commissioner Brock requested that customers check their mail box for gas surveys and encouraged them to fill them out and send them in.

Lastly, passersby will soon have a $24,630.49 LED message board to look at as they drive through town. Council unanimously agreed to spend the money, splitting the cost between TIF 1 & 2. The message board will be around 3 by 7 feet and allow the city to post information.
