Busy Night for McLeansboro City Council

MCLEANSBORO CITY COUNCIL

The council voted to open negotiations with the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office for a brief extension of the intergovernmental agreement for central dispatch. The current contract ends February 3rd and this will give them time to hammer out a new agreement.

They approved a TIF application from Beth and Will Sanduski for a business at 121 South Jackson Street to be named Lexi Lane.

A TIF reimbursement request by Don and Ann Burke for a property located at 600 West Market Street in the amount of $1,407.48 was approved and their request for a property at 405 West Charles Street in the amount of $141.73 was tabled until all the paperwork comes in.

Also approved was an reimbursement request by Keith and Savannah Welch for a property located at 209 South Marshall Ave. for $341.98.

The Jackson Street Development project was tabled until the February council meeting due to a lack of information.

The intersection at Hull and Walnut Streets was changed from a two way to a four way stop.

At the request of Mayor Dick Deitz, the council members will get together to come up with plans for alley improvements, as there are many alleys in bad condition.

The city’s airport liability insurance will be renewed with the same rate as last year.

The council members reviewed the Fire Department and Electric Department statistics for 2018.

The resignations of full-time police officers Matt Bryson and Cory Skelton were accepted, effective immediately.

An 18 minute executive session was held to discuss employment in the police and water departments and compensation for part-time police. It was decided to hire Kelly Bowman as a full-time police officer effective immediately, for Matt Bryson to work part-time no more than 599 hours and to raise the salaries of part-time officers $15 an hour effective January 16th with a one dollar increase after one year following evaluation from the police chief and mayor. Also in the executive session, the council tabled action on the water department.

Council agreed to send Sergeant John Nathan Taylor to the S. I. Criminal Justice Summit in Effingham on February 28th and March 1st.
