Top Weather Events of 2018
This past year, 2018 will go into the weather record books as a year of no spring or fall.
Rare late season and early season snowfalls occurred; helping rob the Tri-State of bonafide spring and fall cycles. There was snow in April and then in mid November.
There were several severe weather events that impacted the region including flooding, tornadoes and relentless heat and humidity during the first half of summer, resulting in one of the most uncomfortable Fourth of July’s on record.
In February there was severe flooding as the month was the wettest February on record.
Tornadoes, 11 reported occurred on April 3. April also noted record cold and a snowfall, then May broke records for warmest days in May, basically jumping into summer territory.
Additional severe weather and tornadoes were reported on May 31.
On June 28, a Derecho was recorded with winds in the 60 to 75 mile per hour range.
From June until the middle of July, oppressive heat was recorded, with relentless humidity throughout the period.
Heavy rains in September caused rivers to jump out of their banks again.
Fall was basically AWOL, as early snow in November on Nov. 14 and 15, all but finished off fall, moving into winter weather almost a month prior to the actual start of winter on Dec. 21.
