Brief and Productive Meeting for Carmi Council

Brief and Productive Meeting for Carmi Council

The Carmi City Council took less than 15 minutes to cover several action items during the regular council meeting Tuesday night.

The council approved a resolution needed for the Burrell Street project. The resolution was basically a matter of formality needed by the Illinois Department of Transportation. Mayor Jeff Pollard explained this was just a matter of paperwork, but did report the city had to pay a little more on the project that originally planned.

Council approved the appointment of Chris Marsh to the Fire and Chief Commission Board. Marsh replaces Mike Thomas on the board, as Thomas plans to retire the first of next month, December.  Marsh will serve from Dec. 1 of this year until Dec. 1 of next year. The position is normally three years, but due to Thomas’ retirement, Marsh was appointed for the one year, with plans to readdress the issue next year.

The alderman spent a little time discussing moving the Jan. 1 meeting as that is a holiday. It was decided to move the meeting to Wednesday, jan. 2, with plans to hold the agenda down to allow the meeting to be over before Wednesday night prayer services.

In other matters, Alderman Mike Knight reported the toddler swings had arrived but it was decided to hold up on the installation until spring. Knight also reminded city officials that they would be ringing the bells for the Salvation Army on Dec. 7 beginning at 9 that morning in front of Wal-mart.

Mayor Pollard reminded local residents and business that want to participate in the Christmas Parade set for Saturday, Dec. 1 they need to contact the Chamber of Commerce office and sign up.

He also wished everyone a safe and Happy Thanksgiving;

Prior to adjournment, Carmi Librarian Stephanie Dennis reminded everyone pecans are in and available at the library. She also reported the holiday replicas should be in anytime now. This year’s replica is of Carmi Teen Town.

The Carmi City Council normally meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month and the meetings are open to the public.
