White County Scam
The White County Sheriff’s Department issued a warning about an increase in scams, here in White County.
Several area residents have reported calls that indicated a family member had been arrested and needed $4,000 for their release. The scammers want a credit card or prepaid card used to help obtain the money. They will not say which law enforcement agency has custody of the family member.
It was pointed out “these people are very good and have an answer to everything. They will make you feel that if you do not immediately send the money, your loved one will suffer”
Local residents were advised to contact the Sheriff’s Department before sending any money, and attempt to contact the person, supposedly in custody. Do not send money without verification. Knowledge is the key to not becoming a victim.
