Car Show Expands in Second Year Under Lions Club

Jul 4th, 2014

The July 4th car, truck, and motorcycle show continues to expand under the supervision of the Carmi Lions Club.

Car Show Chairman Don Ridenour reported 151 registered vehicles, 16 tractors, and several stationary engines at the 7th annual event.

Jody Martin of Waltonville won Best of Show for a 1939 Cadillac (pictured).  Jeff Pollard selected a 1968 Camero for the Mayor’s Choice.  The car is owned by Maurice and Cindy Cobb of Kuttawa, KY.

David and Pat Reed of Eldorado took the People’s Choice trophy for a 1970 Ford Torino GT.  Carl Williams of Clay, KY won Judge’s Choice for a 1961 Corvette.

The Ladies Choice trophy went to Stan and TJ Higginson of McLeansboro for a 1940 Diamond T.

In all, the club awarded 48 trophies for categories ranging from Pre 1950s to Best Street Rod.  Drivers came from Madisonville, Evansville, Olney, and all points in between.  According to Ridenour, many of the participants heard about the car show on the radio.

“It was a beautiful day.  We had a good crowd.  All the Lions members worked their hearts out.  I just hope everybody was satisfied.”

Approximately 30 vendors were present to sell their wares, both outside and inside the Floral Hall.  The event proceeds will go back into the community.

Lions provide assistance to individuals with vision and hearing loss.  A Free Diabetic Retinopathy Screening will be held on Tuesday, July 8th at the Elastec parking lot from 9am-3pm.

The club is active year-round through many other service projects.  For more information on the Lions Club, visit
